Marlo Ebel has always been a giver to this community. But Marlo's philanthropy does not end at the edges of Paullina. For the many years that Marlo operated Mill Creek Liquors, spent the many, many hours pulling the tabs from the can he paid five cents each for and collected those tabs to give to charity. Yep! A charity gladly accepts the aluminum tabs attached to beverage cans to pop open the can.
Just to give some perspective to the enormity of the contribution, 1200 tabs weighs one pound. The price of aluminum tabs has come down in recent months. At one time, a pound of tabs would generate $.69 for Ronald McDonald House. The present price for tabs is $.35 per pound.
Marlo visited the Sioux City Ronald McDonald house two weeks ago with a load of tabs. The boxes of tabs filling the back of his van came to 80 pounds. The donation came to $2800 for a worthy cause that gives assistance to individuals and families in need and difficult times in their lives. Oh and in case your haven't done the math yet - it was 96,000 individual pop tabs!
